Haynes Galleries presents
“The Wyeths: A Limited Edition Collection”
January 30 to February 28, 2015
Explore the works of a 20th century American legend during Haynes Galleries’ new show “The Wyeths: A Limited Edition Collection.” The exhibition will present fine art collotypes and giclées of some of Andrew Wyeth’s most beloved works. The limited edition pieces represent various stages of the artist’s career and include his sensitive portraits and affecting landscapes. “The Wyeths: A Limited Edition Collection” opens January 30 and continues until February 28. It runs in conjunction with “Six Philadelphia Artists,” Haynes Galleries’ group exhibition of six artists based in Philadelphia.
This is a unique opportunity to see some of the Andrew Wyeth’s preferred works, paintings and drawings he was particularly fond of. Included in the exhibition is an edition of the rarely seen 1956 Triton Press Portfolio, color collotypes of ten Wyeth paintings the artist himself chose for the group.
Also presented will be the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Andrew Wyeth Drawing Portfolio and the Painting Portfolio. Produced in conjunction with the 1976 retrospective of Wyeth’s work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, each portfolio contains ten collotypes with each collotype signed by Wyeth. The specific portfolios presented at Haynes Galleries are among a very limited number of the portfolios produced that were signed in their entirety by the artist. It is a rare thing for a signed portfolio— let alone two— to be presented as a whole.
The show will not be limited to Andrew’s work though. Works by Jamie and Carolyn Wyeth, Andrew’s son and sister respectively, will also be included. In their images the Wyeth legacy continues but with their own signature styles. Jamie’s unique pictures of animals serve more as portraits or character studies. Stare into the eyes of a particularly animated sheep in his quirky yet haunting Portrait of a Lady. Carolyn’s ominous yet introspective scenes explore the world with which she was most familiar, her home and rural land surrounding it.
“The Wyeths: A Limited Edition Collection” is a special chance to experience a multitude of Wyeth works in an intimate environment. It’s an opportunity to explore the Wyeth world, a world that has entranced so many for so long.
