NASHVILLE — Haynes Galleries presents Vincent Giarrano’s moments of truth and beauty in the West Gallery. The show is on view from April 12 to May 18 at Haynes Galleries on the historic Music Row Roundabout in Nashville, with an opening reception from 6 to 8pm on April 12. Afterward, the show travels to the galleries’ Thomaston, Maine location from June 28 to July 30.

Giarrano captures ordinary moments from daily life and transforms them into something extraordinary. On a city street, a woman ducks into a doorway to send a text message. In the Connecticut countryside, a waterfall churns amid an otherwise still winter landscape. In an urban apartment, a black-haired woman perches on the edge of her bed, back to the viewer, blue robe cascading along her rumpled duvet. His still lifes, landscapes and genre paintings find beauty in the mundane, tranquility in the chaos.

“What inspires me most is the energy and beauty of my experiences,” Giarrano says. “I see painting as a way to appreciate what is all around us, stuff we take for granted or don't notice. My favorite things to paint are scenes of life in New York City. I love the architecture and people of the city. It's endlessly inspiring. I enjoy painting scenes on the streets but also interiors, which are often about people, alone and in their own thoughts. For me, that presents someone as more truly himself or herself.”

“The common element through all of my work is a focus on real life,” Giarrano says. “I like my paintings to resonate as sincere moments from daily life.” These everyday truths lie in the details — the reflection on a teacup, the weathered doorway in a bustling neighborhood, the distressed leather on a favorite pair of boots. His paintings are visceral. Real. Introspective.
