William Matthews

American, Born 1949

Hailed the Remington of painting by Forbes magazine, William Matthews is considered a major 20th Century Western realist painter. Although he was born in New York City, Matthews moved to San Francisco where he spent most of his childhood and received his formal art education. It was in LA that he became known for his album cover designs. He subsequently traveled Europe for several years before finally settling down in Colorado.

William Matthews is a celebrated artist having received numerous awards and recognitions for his watercolors. His paintings are in important public collections including the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum, the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.
