An Evening with Adventure Photographer John Guider
& The Frist’s Executive Director Susan Edwards
Wednesday, September 16, 6 to 7:30 pm

NASHVILLE— During this special talk, Ms. Edwards and John Guider will discuss John’s fine art travel photography. John has been traveling across the U.S. and abroad for several years photographing architecture, nature, and the people he meets along the way.

But for the last few years, John’s begun traveling on America’s waterways as part of his “The River Inside” project. Journeying by himself, often in small boats, John has been photographing the serene, frightful, and sublime beauty of America’s creeks, rivers, and lakes.

Ms. Edwards and John will explore the process behind these photographs and discuss the platinum printing process, a labor-intensive printing process John favors for its tonal range. Also on the evening’s agenda, the many colorful stories from John’s time out on the water, including his most recent journey: an 850-mile loop from Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin, down the Chicago river and ending in Cairo, Illinois, which found him stranded at an Illinois marina for nearly a week after heavy rainfall flooded waterways to unsafe levels.

As Executive Director of The Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Susan Edwards has helped bring the visual arts to the forefront in Nashville. She is the driving force behind the multiple world class exhibitions presented at The Frist every year and a well respected academic. It’s an honor and unique opportunity to have her and John in the gallery talking art.

Both the event and exhibition are free and open to the public. “Art Nashville” is on view until September 26.
